As president and president-elect, he either led or had major roles in initiating the GLATA Joint Committee Meeting, creating the Safe Sports School and Leadership Academy grant programs, and creating the GLATA-EATA (Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association) exchange program. At the district level, he led initial investigations into the District IV split as chair of the Change Management Committee. Finally, he led legislative efforts to pass HEA 1290, adding athletic trainers to the Indiana Legislative Code of Healthcare Providers, while also serving on the legislative team that passed HEA 1467, giving athletic trainers the ability to seek third-party reimbursement for services provided. He led two legislative sunset presentations in 20, each recognized by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Governmental Affairs Committee with Dan Campbell Legislative Awards. At the state level, he helped create a new diversity award and scholarship in 2014 to honor those promoting diversity - Indiana is one of three states to have this type of award. Lawrance has been active at the state, district and national levels. The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA) will honor Scott Lawrance, clinical professor and director of athletic training education at Purdue University, with the 2022 GLATA Golden Pinnacle Award.
